This is one of the many places in Wales called Bettws, the meaning of which word has never been accurately determined. The parish contains 1,117 acres of land and 16 of water. The rateable value in 1815 was £ 932 and in 1891 fl,51 1. The churchyard is very large but contains very few graves, the ground being considered very wet.
