1911 revolution to the Cultural Revolution of the mid-1960s. The dis- cussion of the thought of Sun Yat-Sen is especially incisive. Val R. Lorwin and Jacob M. Price (eds.), The Dimensions of the Past (Yale University Press, 1972. Pp. 566.$17.50), is a survey of the use of quantitative materials and methods in historical research. Although Professor Aydelotte's chapter on the use of statistics in studying nineteenth- century British parliamentary history is of interest, the general effect is to induce a sense of the dismal crudity of much of the methodology in this volume. British historians will probably prefer to follow the traditional techniques of their professional discipline rather than submit to the tyranny of a computerized Clio. Grigoire lonesco, Histoire de V Architecture en Roumanie (Edition de L'Academie de la République Socialiste de Roumanie, 3 bis, Rue Gutenberg, Bucharest, 1972. Pp. 588, figs. 466), is an outstandingly lucid and comprehensive survey of its subject. The treatment of the Romanesque is particularly impressive.
