6. Sir John Perrot of Haroldson and Carew. Died in the Tower of London on 3 November 1592 (R.Turvey, 'Sir John Perrot (1528- 1592). A fourth centenary perspective', The Journal of the Pembrokeshire Historical Soc., 5 (1992-3), p. 15). APPENDIX: KNIGHTED WELSH LANDOWNERS, 1485-1558 ANNUAL TOTALS ON 1 JANUARY EACH YEAR The totals, separated by colons, shown below give the total number of knights with lands wholly or mainly in Wales who are both known to have held knightly status and to have been alive on 1 January of every year from 1485 to 1558 inclusive. Numbers in brackets appearing after totals show that on the relevant dates there were also knights whose knightly status was then uncertain (in which case '? 1 k' appears) and/or knights who are not certainly known to have been still alive then (in which case '? 1 d' appears). Knights in this latter category continue to be recorded as '? 1 d' for five years following that in which they are last known to have been alive, unless there is evidence that they had died before five years had elapsed. The note '? 1 peer' for 1 January 1504 relates to Sir Charles Somerset, who was recognized or created as Lord Herbert at some unestablished date between 10 October 1503 and 25 January 1504, and who, under the criteria adopted in compiling the annual totals, ceases to be included in them after his elevation to the peerage. 1485-1489 7:7(?ld): 7(?ld): 8(?ld): 8(?ld) 1490-1499 9(?ld): 9: 9: 9(ld): 9(?ld): 8: 7: 7: 12: 12 1500-1509 ll(?ld): 11: 14: 14: 12(?lpeer): 11: 9(?ld): 9: 8: 8: 1510-1519 8: 8: 6: 6: 18: 18(?lk): 18(?k): 20: 21: 22 1520-1529 22: 21: 19: 19: 20: 19(?lk): 17(?ld,?lk): 17(?ld): 17(?ld): 17(?ld) 1530-1539 15(?ld): 14 ll(?ld): 10: 11: 11: 8: 8: 8:. 8: 1540-1549 7: 8: 8(?lk): 8: 8: 10: 10: 10(?lk): 14(?ld): 14(?ld) 1550-1558 15: 17: 16: 16(?lk): 21(?lk): 22: 22: 21: 18
