CYFROL (VOLUME) I As will be seen from the 'Proceedings of the Society and of its Executive Committee, 1939-49' printed on pp. 106-111 1-see particu- arly page III-it has been considered advisable to change the format' of the Transactions of this Society and even to change its name. The last volume of Transactions, the fourteenth, appeared in 1939, and no publication of any kind has reached those faithful subscribers who remained loyal to the Society throughout the interregnum period of ten long years when meetings were very few. This present number is, therefore, to be regarded as the first in a new, a second, series of Transactions,' except that, henceforth, what was a volume of Trans- actions' becomes a number of a 'Journal.' The word Journal' in itself typifies also a change in editorial policy. Strictly speaking, the Transactions' of a society should record only what has been transacted by it-addresses given at general meetings and proceedings at meetings of the executive committee. Ceredigion attempts to do something more-it aims at being a general magazine which will print (a) addresses given at meetings, proceedings,' etc., and (b) con- tributions of various kinds which have not been solicited by the editor or by the executive committee. Its scope, therefore, is more ex- tensive at any rate, the present editor hopes that such will prove to be the case. Whether Ceredigion will survive at all-whether it will run to fourteen volumes, like its predecessor, the Transactions '-depends entirely upon the members of the Society. In brief, its life depends upon there being an abundance and a variety of material offered to the editor. There should be such an abundance and such a variety of material offered to him with a view to publication that what the editor has to do is to select and edit — he should not be expected to solicit.
