From Capel Wyl it was moved for safety, in the fifteenth or sixteenth century, to Llanfechan, the home of the Lloyd family, some of whose members were high sheriffs of Cardiganshire between 1599 and 1700, but whose house had become a complete ruin by the middle of the nineteenth century. When the Cambrian Arch- aeological Association visited the district in 1860 the stone had lain for years against the hedge in the garden of Llanfechan and a strong appeal was made for its preserv- ation. This resulted in its being taken by the late Col. H. Davies Evans, lord lieutenant of Cardiganshire, to his home at Highmead (Dolau Bach), where it remained for the best part of a hundred years. The first sketch of the stone, with its Latin and Ogham inscriptions, was made by Miss Dora Jones, Gwynfryn, Taliesin, a sister of the late Bishop Basil Jones of St. Davids, and was reproduced in Archaeologia Cambrensis, 1861. References to the stone may also be found in the Transactions of our Society (see article by the late D. C. Evans, M.Sc., St. Clears, in Vol. 7, p. 63, and by the late D. J. Davies, Rhiwgoch, Aberaeron, a former chairman of our Committee, in Vol. 12, pp. 37-8) and in Hanes Plwyf Llanwenog by D. R. and Z. S. Cledlyn Davies (p. 24). Aberystwyth. J. R. DAVIES.
