ANNUAL REPORT FOR 1966 SPRING MEETING THE Spring Meeting was held at the University Building, Alexandra Road, Aber- ystwyth, on Saturday, 23 April. Seventy members attended the meeting, which was also the Annual General Meeting. The Society's Chairman, Mr. J. E. R. Carson, presided, and apologies for absence were received from twenty-one members. The Annual Report was presented by the Honorary Secretary (Mr. Dafydd M. Jones) this was adopted and Mr. Jones was thanked for his work on behalf of the Society. The Honorary Treasurer (Mr. H. Morris Roberts) presented the financial report, together with the Balance Sheet which had been audited by Mr. J. Emrys Jones. This report was also adopted. Captain J. Hext Lewes, O.B.E., R.N. (rtd.), Her Majesty's Lord Lieutenant, was elected President of the Society to succeed the late Earl of Lisburne. In view of his long association with the Society-he being the sole surviving founder-member- Mr. D. D. Evans, Llanio, North Road, Aberystwyth, was elected Vice-President of the Society. The other Honorary Officers were re-elected en bloc. Mrs. J. M. Frost Smith had intimated her wish to resign from the Executive Committee since she had left the county. Miss M. M. Jenkins, B.A., Pennant, was elected in her place, and The Reverend M. C. Donaldson, B.A., B.D., Ystrad Meurig, was elected to fill the vacancy caused by the elevation of Mr. D. D. Evans. The other members of the Committee were re-elected, as were the Local Correspondents. A welcome was extended to Major Francis Jones, T.D., D.L., M.A., F.S.A., County Archivist of Carmarthenshire. The Chairman recalled that Major Francis Jones had addressed the Society on a number of occasions, but since the last time he had been appointed Wales Herald Extraordinary, and he was warmly congratulated. He delivered an interesting address on Heraldry in Cardiganshire,' tracing the development of the coats of arms of the various families and explaining the many interesting facts of a family's history which could be gleaned from these. The new President moved a hearty vote of thanks to the speaker, and this was carried with acclamation. SUMMER MEETING Almost one hundred members assembled at Ystrad Meurig Church on 29 June. They were welcomed by the Vicar, the Reverend M. C. Donaldson, who offered a short prayer. In the absence of the Society's Chairman, who was engaged at the Assizes in his capacity as Clerk of the Peace, the proceedings were conducted by Mr. E. D. Jones, C.B.E., B.A., F.S.A. Apologies for absence were received from thirty-four members. An address on the history of St. John's College, Ystrad Meurig, and on its founder, Edward Richard (1714-77) was given by the Reverend M. C. Donaldson, who is also the present Headmaster. The wealth of information contained in the address was appreciated by the members present. The party was then conducted on a tour of the Church and the College by some of the present students. The party then proceeded to the Lisburne Hall, Llanafan, where the Llanafan Women's Institute had prepared an excellent tea. The Reverend W. Noel Evans, M.A., j.p., Abermad, thanked the ladies for their welcome and hospitality. At the Cwmystwyth lead-mines Mr. W. J. Lewis, m.sc, Llanbadarn Fawr, spoke on the history of the mines and once more showed that he was master of his subject.
