ANNUAL REPORT FOR 1977 Spring and Annual General Meeting The combined Spring and Annual General Meeting were held at the Old Hall, Old College, Aberystwyth on 30 April. The President, Capt. J. Hext-Lewes, O.B.E., presided and extended a welcome to the members assembled. The Honorary Secretary (Mr. Dafydd M. Jones) referred to the loss sustained by the Society with the passing of Dr. T. Ifor Rees, C.M.G., who had been a member of the Executive Committee for 21 years. Members stood in silent tribute. At the business session, a summary of the Annual Report for 1976 was presented by the Honorary Secretary, and this was adopted. The Financial Report showed a deficit of £ 444 on the year's working, but was attributed to the fact that a double number of Ceredigion had been produced coupled with the fact that the Society had not benefitted from the higher subscription rate introduced in July 1976. The Report was adopted. The Honorary Officers were re-elected en bloc as were members of the Executive Committee. The Committee was asked to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Dr. T. Ifor Rees, C.M.G. The Local Correspondents were re-elected, and the representatives of the Archaeological Section confirmed as members of the Executive Committee. The Guest-Speaker, Mr. Peter Smith, M.A., F.S.A., Secretary of the Royal Commission on Ancient and Historical Monuments in Wales, was introduced by the Society's Chairman, Mr. J. E. R. Carson, LL.B. In an interesting address, illus- trated by excellent colour slides, Mr. Smith spoke of Welsh Domestic Architecture against the background of the history of such architecture in the British Isles as a whole. This talk and his recently published book Houses of the Welsh Countryside are proof that Mr. Smith is an authority on the subject. A vote of thanks to the speaker was proposed by The Rev. W. Noel Evans, M.A., J.P., Trawscoed, and this was seconded by Mr. T. Duncan Cameron, Ciliau Aeron. Dr. John D. Owen was thanked for operating the projector most efficiently. At the conclusion of the meeting, members were entertained to tea by the Chairman of Ceredigion District Council, Cllr. W. T. K. Raw-Rees, and he was thanked for his generous hospitality by the President. Summer Meeting This meeting consisted of a visit to a part of the Vale of Teifi and it was held on 2 July. In the morning, a party consisting of about 75 members assembled at the Cambrian Mill, Drefach Velindre, where Mr. J. Geraint Jenkins, M.A., F.S.A., of the Welsh Folk Museum, St. Fagan, gave a short talk on the Woollen Industry in this area. The mill, in addition to being a production unit employing about 30 people, houses the Museum of the Woollen Industry. When the work is completed, it is hoped that the Museum will provide a comprehensive picture of the Industry. During the afternoon at Holy Trinity Church, Newcastle Emlyn, the Archdeacon of Cardigan, the Ven. D. Eifion Evans, M.A., delivered a short address on the History of the Castle and of the Church. Following this, Mr. David Jenkins, C.B.E., M.A., J.P., the National Librarian, spoke of Isaac Carter, who established a printing press,-the first in Wales-at Adpar. A visit was paid to the Castle and to Adpar where the commemorative plaque was inspected. Later, the party visited the
