ANNUAL REPORT FOR 1980 Spring and Annual General Meeting The Spring and Annual General Meeting was held at Saint David's University College, Lampeter, on Saturday 26 April 1980. Sixty members were present and the Chair was taken by the President, Capt. J. Hext Lewes, O.B.E. The Honorary Secretary (Mr. Dafydd M. Jones) paid tribute to two members of the Society who had passed away during the year namely, Mr. Gildas Tibbott, M.A, Aberystwyth, who had served as Honorary Editor from 1951 until 1971, and Mr. Ieuan T. Hughes, M.A., Llandysul, who had been a member of the Executive Com- mittee since 1931. A summary of the annual report for 1979 was presented by the Honorary Secretary, and he also presented the audited accounts in the unavoidable absence of the Honor- ary Treasurer (Mr. R. R. Owen). Both were adopted. The Honorary Officers, members of the Executive Committee and Local Corres- pondents were re-elected nem con. The guest-speaker was the Reverend D. T. W. Price, M.A., F.R.Hist.,S., Lecturer in History at Saint David's University College. He delivered an interesting and informative address, illustrated with many slides, on the history of the College since its foundation in 1822 to the present day. A vote of thanks to the speaker was moved by the Reverend W. Noel Evans, M.A., J.P., Trawscoed, an old student of the College, and this was seconded by Mrs. Mary Ellis, M.A., Aberystwyth. The members were entertained to tea and biscuits by the College authorities at the conclusion of the meeting. Autumn Meeting This meeting was held in the Council Chamber of the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, on Saturday 11 October 1980, and fifty members assembled. In the inavoidable absence of both the Chairman and Vice-Chariman, Professor Ieuan Gwynedd Jones, M.A., F.R.,Hist.S., was invited to take the Chair. He con- sidered it an honour to extend a welcome to the guest-speaker Mr. R. Geraint Gruffydd, B.A., D. Phil., the National Librarian. Dr Gruffydd delivered an address in Welsh on "John Glyn Davies a Cheredigion", and he outlined the life of this colourful character-librarian, Celtic Scholar and poet. The audience was fascinated by this address interspersed with excerpts from the poetical works of J. Glyn Davies. An interesting interlude followed the address, when members of the audience recounted their personal reminiscences of J. Glyn Davies, more especially the period when he resided in Llanarth. A vote of thanks to the speaker was moved by Professor R. R. Davies, M.A., D.Phil., Aberystwyth, and seconded by Mr. Evan L. James, B.Sc., Ph.D., Penrhyn- coch. Winter Meeting This meeting was held in the Council Chamber, Town Hall, Aberystwyth on Saturday, 13 December 1980. The Chair was taken by Mr. J. E. R. Carson, Ll.B., who extended a welcome to the fifty members assembled. A special welcome was given to the President (Capt. J. Hext Lewes, O.B.E.,) who was recovering from an operation.
