ANNUAL REPORT FOR 1981 Spring and Annual General Meeting The Spring and Annual General Meeting was held at the Town Hall, Aberystwyth, on Saturday, 16 May 1981. The Chair was taken by the President, Captain J. Hext Lewes, O.B.E., who extended a welcome to the 55 members assembled. A summary of the Annual Report for 1980 was presented by the Honorary Sec- retary (Mr. Dafydd M. Jones), and the audited accounts were presented by the Honorary Treasurer (Mr. R. R. R. Owen). Both were adopted. The President, Captain J. Hext Lewes, O.B.E., had informed the Executive Committee of his intention not to seek re-election. Mr. J. E. R. Carson, LL.B., paid tribute to the active part played by the President in the Society's affairs over the last 16 years. His attendance at meetings and his contribution to the discussions were much appreciated. Responding Captain J. Hext Lewes thanked all members for their support and paid tribute to Mr. J. E. R. Carson and Mr. Dafydd M. Jones, Chairman and Secretary respectively, for their services. Emeritus Professor E. G. Bowen, M.A., D.Litt., LL.D., F.S.A., F.R.G.S., was unanimously appointed President and he thanked the members for the honour bestowed upon him. The following officers were elected Chairman Mr. J. E. R. Carson, L. L. B., (re-elected) Vice-Chairman Professor leuan Gwynedd Jones, M.A., F.R.Hist.S., Honorary Treasurer Mr. R. R. Owen (re-elected) Honorary Editor: Mr. David Jenkins, C.B.E., D. Litt., M.A., J.P., (re-elected) Honorary Secretary Mr. Dafydd M. Jones, B.A., (re-elected) The members of the Executive Committee and Local Correspondents were re- elected and Mr. David Austin, B.A., Dip.Arch., Lampeter, was appointed to fill the vacancy on the Executive Committee. On behalf of Friends of Ceredigion Museum, Mrs. Margaret Evans, M.B.E., thanked the Honorary Secretary for his assistance and willingness to co-operate at all times. At short notice Professor Ieuan Gwynedd Jones, M.A., F.R.Hist.S., had agreed to address the meeting on "Church Reconstruction in Cardiganshire in the Nine- teenth Century." A vote of thanks to the speaker was moved by the Reverend Canon T. R. Evans, B.A., Lampeter, and seconded by the Reverend A. W. Ronald Hughes, M.A., Aberystwyth. Autumn Meeting The meeting was held in the Council Chamber at the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, on Saturday 24 October 1981. Despite the rain and gale force wind, 35 members assembled and they were welcomed by the Chairman Mr. J. E. R. Carson, L.L.B. A warm welcome was extended to T. Llew Jones, Esq., M.A., Pontgarreg, who in his own inimitable style delivered an interesting talk in Welsh on "Teulu'r Cilie" (The Cilie Family). He gave an outline of the history of this literary family and concentrated on the contribution of the sons to the poetry of Wales and more espee- ially the work of Isfoel and Alun. The talk was enriched with examples of the humour of these characters.
