Association for Local History and to the Council for British Archaeology and to the Group operating in Wales. Membership A number of new members was enrolled during the year but, unfortunately, an equal number was lost through death and some resignations. Furthermore, members who were in arrears with their subscriptions for eighteen months were removed from the list of members. The campaign to gain new members continues and it is hoped that all members will participate in this. Finance During the year under review, the Society benefitted from the increase in the member- ship fee introduced two years ago. There is a modest balance in hand, but rising costs could erode this. Again, a large increase in membership would allow the Society to embark on new work. Personal The Executive suffered a number of losses during the year. Due to his wife's state of health, Mr. A. H. A. Hogg, C.B.E., D.Litt., M.A., F.S.A., resigned after many years' service. His services will be missed. In May, Miss Margaret M.Jenkins, B.A., Pennant, passed away, to be followed in July by Mr. Alun R. Edwards, M.A., F.L.A., and as this report was being written, the death of Mr. E. D. Jones, C.B.E., LL.D., B.A., F.S.A., was announced. Neither we as a Society, nor Wales as a whole, can afford such losses. Acknowledgments The Society is grateful to the Dyfed Education Authority for purchasing copies of CEREDIGION for distribution to the schools of Ceredigion. It is indebted to the Ceredigion District Council for allowing free use of a room for the Society's meetings, and it is grateful to the Dyfed County Council for practical help. Those who have addressed the Society and those who have contributed papers to CEREDIGION are thanked for their services. They have helped the Society to meet one of its aims, namely to study and record the history of Ceredigion. My fellow-officers and members of Com- mittees are thanked for their loyal service, and the support of all members is appreciated. I wish my successor every good fortune in the years ahead, and I thank the Society for the honour of being allowed to serve as its Secretary for the past thirty-one years. DAFYDD MORRIS JONES Ar ran aelodau'r Gymdeithas, carwn ddiolch i Dafydd Morris Jones am ei wasanaeth cydwybodol a ffyddlon ar hyd y blynyddoedd. On behalf of members of the Society, I should like to thank Dafydd Morris Jones for his faithful and conscientious service over the years. GERAINT H. JENKINS
