ABSTRACT
A study based primarily on contemporary local press reports, of the
circumstances and local and external influences surrounding the
establishment of an Intermediate School in Cardigan, tracing the chronology
of primary events from 1890 to the opening of the School's new building in
1898. The complex motives of the town's civic leaders are considered
