period and we were addressed by the Rector, Richard Suggett and Mrs Mary Burdett-Jones. Following the meeting we were entertained to tea at the Rectory. On 14 November a lecture was given by Mr Paul M. Bryant-Quinn on 'Syr Phylib o Emlyn: bardd ei fro', a lecture that appears in this issue of Ceredigion. The season came to a close with a talk by Dr Caroline Palmer who discussed aspects of a number of important sites in the County with emphasis on historical gardens. We thank Dr Palmer, not only for an interesting lecture, but also for coming to us at very short notice. The Secretary by virtue of his office, represents the Society on the Executive Committee of the Friends of the National Library, the Committee of the Friends of the County Museum and as an observer at meetings of the Hafod Trust. Our close relationship with the National Library and its staff is something of which we are proud and it is a pleasure to record that the next chairman of the Friends will be Mrs Mary Burdett-Jones. The Society was active in seeking a lottery fund grant for Hafod and a number of projects are in hand to secure this very important but fragile site. It has been a disappointment to us that the County Council has decided to introduce entrance charges to the Museum and this has had a disasterous effect on the number of visitors, numbers being down to less than half. We have objected to this and we trust that the Council will change its mind on this issue so as not to impair further the enthusiasm of the dedicated Museum staff.
