'"John Evans must be distinguished from the John Evans who was rector of Itton and prebendary of Caerau in 1560/1, a non-graduate but one of the licensed preachers in the diocese. John Evans of Portskewett was a younger son of Ieuan ap Thomas of Llangatwg Feibion Afel and hence younger brother of William Evans (see fn. 53). He may be the John Evans recorded in Foster as proceeding MA in May 1555. He was also rector of Llanfihangel Cwm-du in Brecon, where he resided. Appointed to Portskewett between 1560/1 and 1563; died 3 Dec. 1588 and buried in Llandaff Cathedral. John Bach was also rector of the adjoining parish of Sudbrook and curate of St. Pierre during vacancy. Appointed to Sudbrook since 1560 unless he is the John Williams who was there in 1560/1 appearing under a nickname rather than a patronymic. Next known appointment William Taylor, who d. 1596.
