In that year his estates were seized by King Henry I, who reorganised their administration upon Anglo-Norman civil lines. Estates in Penfro were granted to loyal Anglo-Normans and later planted with Flemish and West Country immigrants who were largely under Henry's ultimate control via his sheriff at Pembroke. Much of Cantref Gwarthaf was also acquired by the crown.
