Wider issues have also arisen. One is the need for a detailed survey of all burial grounds in the county, with the denomination of the religious building attached, if any, and the condition of the yard and stones. Another is the need to establish a policy for preservation and conservation for the guidance of church and chapel officials. The maintenance of graveyards as tidy mown 'parks' has been the accepted aim but is fast becoming an impossible one with falling congregations in most places and the shutting of many churches and chapels. The possibility of using graveyards as 'nature reserves with history' may be more sensible in some cases. The committee is now planning to become an official body to further the work outlined above. Those wishing to know more of the work of the committee or of the Glam.F.H.S. should contact either Mrs. P. Moore, County Archivist, Mid Glamorgan County Hall, Cathays Park, Cardiff, or the Secretary of the Glam.F.H.S., Howard Llewellyn, Llanishen Fach Farmhouse, Heol Erwin, Rhiwbina, Cardiff. Searches in the gravestone master index of names can be made, for a small fee payable to the Glam.F.H.S., by contacting Mr. K.L. Chapman, 18 Clos Ton Mawr, Rhiwbina, Cardiff. Lists of the yards recorded appear regularly in the Journal of Glam.F.H.S. Diane Brook NOTES The four yards were recorded by the Glam.F.H.S. 2 Deborah Moore, 'A Survey and Recording of Llanwonno Graveyard', unpublished B.A. thesis in archaeology, University College, Cardiff, 1978.
