IAITH, MERCHED, A'R FARCHNAD LAFUR: ASTUDIAETH GYMHAROL O GYMRU, FFRYSLAN, A GALISIA Delyth Morris ABSTRACT Language, women and the labour market: A comparative study of Wales, Friesland, and Galicia This study attempts to map out the relationship between language and gender in relation to accessing the labour market within three different minority language areas: Friesland, Galicia and Wales. In the three cases, it is apparent that the women from the minority language group do not have the same access to the formal labour market as women from the majority language group; neither do they have the same access as men. Furthermore, it is also clear that women from minority language groups are also under-represented in the higher class locations. In all three cases, minority language women suffer a double disadvantage firstly, as a consequence of the implicit sexism that exists within the labour market, and secondly by virtue of their membership of minority language groups. There is no evidence that training procedures and practices in any of the three locations are doing much to alleviate the problem.
