Cl The trouble with the Church today is that it keeps changing to keep up with the times. It should be the one thing that stays the same. 'conservative' Dl I am Anglican because I believe other denominations are wrong. I look forward to the day when the traditional churches are reformed and the nonconformist denominations return to their mother church. 'opposed' El Some people think that the Church should spend its time doing things for people outside it. That point of view turns Christians into do-gooders and the clergy into social workers. The job of the Church is to worship God and fight against the world outside the Church. 'world rejecting' (world as evil) Set C: concerning change and the Church What people in the Church today cannot grasp is that because the world around us is changing the Church has to change if it is to preach effectively the unchanging Gospel of Jesus Christ. 'moderate' Set D: concerning the ecumenical movement I accept that members of other churches and denominations are just as much Christians as we are; I believe we should be partners, not enemies in spite of our differences; but frankly I think that Covenanting and Councils of Churches and other ecumenical acth'ities are a complete waste of time and effort. 'opposed to institutional units' Set E: concerning the Church and the World The job of the Church is to go out into the world and preach the Good News of Jesus Christ. 'world accepting', 1 (world as the object of evangelism) C2 C3 The trouble with the Church today is that it is imprisoned in the past. It needs to have the courage to reject its traditions so that it can become free to witness effectively to the Gospel. 'radical' D2 D3 Tolerance and understanding between members of churches and organisations are not enough. Our divisions are a scandal and all Christians should spare no effort to create a single Christian Church in this country. 'favourable' E2 E3 The job cf the Church is to witness to the love of God for His creation by serving and caring for His children, wherever and whoever they may be. 'world accepting', 2 (world as the object of Christian service)
