bought for £ 500 to be used for the militia stores, etc. It was used for this purpose until 1876, when the Radnorshire Militia was joined with the Breconshire Militia, the house being sold the following year to Beddoes Grammar School. The officers of the Militia were given permission in 1865 to use the Grand Jury Room at the Shire Hall for their mess during training. A curious incident occurred in 1855. Whent he Court opened on. 5th January only five jurymen were present. It was found that the summoning bailiff had forgotten to summon both the Grand and Petty Jurors. The Court had to adjourn for a week, and the bailiff was fined £ 5. Richard Venables, D.D., Archdeacon of Carmarthen Sir John Benn Walsh, Bart., Cefnllys (afterwards first Lord Ormathwaite) Sir John James Garbett Walsham, Knill Court; John Whittaker, Newcastle Court.
