Five of these manors have been identified with some degree of certainty:- TITLEGE is TITLEy-Parish of Titley, Herefordshire. CHENILLE is KNILL-Parish of Knill, Herefordshire. DISCOTE is DIscoED-Parish of Discoed, Radnor. CASCOPE is CAScoB-Parish of Cascob, Radnor. BRUNTUNE is LITTLE BRAMPToN-Parish of Rodd, Nash and Little Brampton, Herefordshire. QUERENTUNE is probably KINNERToN-Parish of Kinnerton, Herefordshire. CLATRETUNE is probably CLATTERBRUNE or CLATTERBROOK, on the Eastern outskirts of PRESTEIGNE town. HERTUNE is reputed to represent HARPTON, near KINGTON, Herefordshire. The manors of HERCOPE, BRADLEGE and HECH remain unidentified. They must be sought in the neighbourhood of the other manors, which have been identified by record or with tolerable certainty. There is in the neighbourhood only a certain limited number of places which can be found to be suitable as sites from the point of view of agriculture and antiquity of settlement or cultivation. HERCOPE, I suggest, is Combe, in the Parish of Combe, 2t miles east of PRESTEIGNE. I have no evidence for the suggestion, though some may exist, but the site is one which by its location more or less fits the require- ments of a manor with woodland, water meadows and evidence of ancient arable. This suggestion is however, I repeat, pure guesswork. HECH, on the other hand, is, I think, almost certainly NASH, in the Parish of Rodd, Nash and Little Brampton. The site contains the requirements of a manor of one hide. The arable land of NASH to-day shows many of the characteristics of ancient open field farming, with such land free from the danger of flooding by the Hindwell Brook even in earlier centuries. It is similar in this respect to the lie of BRUNTUNE, Little Brampton, and in the same parish. It has its quota of woodland and water meadow.
