In conclusion, a word or two should be said about the Radnorshire Agricultural Society as we know it to-day. Mr. W. S. Mackintosh, who was a joint-secretary from 1923 to 1938, states that the first Show was held at Penybont in October, 1873. The Shows continued to be held there until 1921. From 1922 to 1930 they took place at Llandrindod Wells. There were no Shows in 1931 and 1932 owing to the Welsh National Show being held at Llandrindod, and the Radnorshire Show was not resumed until 1937, when it went once more to Penybont. In 1938, it was held at Rhayader and in 1939 at Llandrindod Wells. There has been no show since that year owing to the War. PRESTEIGNE PAST AND PRESENT [By Mr. W. H. Howse (published by Jakemans, Hereford)]. A book of 139 pages, divided into 19 chapters. In the preface, the author states My object has been to get enough facts together to enable the reader to picture the place as it was at different periods." He has not only succeeded in doing so, he has collected a vast amount of historical, parochial and domestic items, blending with them local touches so pleasing to the reader. The 16 beautiful photographs illustrating the book deserve the highest praise. Those interested in local dialect will be pleased with the Appendix, pp. 131-3, giving additional words to those which appeared in Mr. Howse's book on Radnor Old and New in 1944. In fact, the author, the photographer and printer have combined to produce a book worthy of a place in every library. On page 78, last line, 1230 should be 1330 and page 105, Hergest Croft," Hergest Court. D.S.D.
