prepared for a sale catalogue (possibly about 1890, but so far unidentified). The views illustrate (a) Ithon and Ethel Villas (b) High Street (and the Congregational Church) (c) The Rock House Hotel, Park, Baths, Arcade and Mineral Springs. The plan has been framed at the expense of Colonel J. A. Paterson and the other two items by the Society. The exhibits have been put on display in the Museum at Llandrindod Wells on loan. A similar plan dated 1868 was framed and presented to the Museum by Colonel Paterson in 1971. Together the two plans adumbrate the future development of Llandrindod Wells and are of particular interest in connection with Dr. I. E. Jones's article, which appears in this issue. BRIGADIER SIR CHARLES MICHAEL DILLWYN VENABLES- LLEWELYN, BART, M.V.O. 1900-1976 It is with great regret that we have to record at the time of going to press the death of our President. Sir Michael succeeded Captain E. Aubrey Thomas upon the latter's death in 1952 and occupied the position of President until the date of his own death. During this period of twenty- four years Sir Michael presided over most of our Annual General Meetings and also took the chair at many meetings of the Executive Committee up to 1966. He also chaired the Sub-Committee which revised the Society's constitution in 1964. His unfailing support was greatly appreciated and with his passing the Society has lost its staunchest member. No better tribute to his memory could be paid than that which appeared in The Times newspaper from the hand of one of his former military colleagues- "he inspired admiration, trust and affection to an extraordinary degree in all of whatever rank under his charge. In addition to military training he infected us all with all the persistence in difficulties, tolerance of others and above all cheerfulness and a sense of humour in all situations which has stood us in good stead ever since, and for which he will be long remembered with continuing affection by many people in many occupations". The same qualities were manifested in his public work in the county of which he was Lord Lieutenant until 1974. He will be greatly missed.
