There are times when the stakes are too high for competition, however good- natured. It is my opinion that there is not room in Wales at the moment for more than one quarterly in the English language. If, however, you are going to be forced to compete, and since that competition will be mainly financial, may I make one suggestion ? It was, I believe, Giraldus Cambrensis who said that the Welsh were in their first attack more than men, but in their second less than women. Judging by the first three numbers I fear lest this should prove true of Wales also. Why not issue utility numbers for the duration ? I am sure that we will all continue to place our few coupons with you. With all good wishes from, R. S. THOMAS. From the Editor of" Sereny Dwyrain (Star of the East). F/O. T. E. Dear Friend,-We, the undersigned, have decided to launch an Appeal for a Memorial to commemorate the Immortal Memory of those gallant Welshmen who died fighting Fascism in Spain. It is intended that the Memorial should take the form of endowing either a Bed or a Ward at the new Stalingrad Hospital, in their names. It is fitting that a record of the valour of these gallant Welshmen shall be kept, for all time, in the historic city of Stalingrad. We, therefore, appeal to you to assist by sending a donation to the Hon. Treasurer, T. E. NICHOLAS, Glasynys, Aberystwyth. Signed SAM WILD (Commander British Battalion International Brigade).
