Elsewhere in Wales Cyperus longus is known only from Pem- brokeshire, where, also, it was recorded by LIGHTFOOT in 1773 it has probably gone from the original locality, but is known to exist elsewhere in the county (E. PRICE EVANS). [See Nature in Wales, vol. 1, p. 8, 1955, for a recent Pembrokeshire record.] Carex distans X extensa (hybrid of Distant and Long-bracted Sedges). Merioneth. Six plants on the 17th July 1956 in a salt- marsh at Mochras, near Llanbedr, the only certain locality for this hybrid known anywhere. It was first discovered, as a single plant, on the 1st July 1948, by members of a Botanical Society excursion. A specimen collected by them is in the Kew Herbarium. The record was published in the B.S.B.L 1950 Tear Book (p. 50, 1950) and a full account of the plant by E. NELMES later appeared in Watsonia (vol. n, pp. 148-150, 1952). The hybrid was not seen again until the 22nd June 1954, when a few stems were gathered from several plants in the original locality. These are now at Kew also. It was not realized at the time what they were, so no note was made of the exact spot where they were found. The area was searched on the 19th June 1955, a rather early date, without success. But on the 17th July 1956, after another intensive search, six plants were found a detailed note of their precise location was made and a few stems were collected for the Welsh National Herbarium, in which the hybrid was previously unrepresented (P.M.B.). Carex capillaris (Hair Sedge). Caern. Found in June 1946 in peaty pockets c. 1750 ft. on calcareous rocks belonging to the Crafnant Volcanic series, in a north-facing crag habitat. Specimens are in the Welsh National, Kew and British Museum Herbaria. C. capillaris is an Arctic-alpine species new to Wales, being pre- viously known to exist in the British Isles only in N. England and Scotland (E. PRICE EVANS). Carex riparia (Great Pond Sedge). Merioneth. In the marsh between Towyn and Aberdovey on the 29th July 1955 the first cer- tain record for the county (P.M.B.). This sedge was recorded by the Rev. T. SALWEY in a Barmouth guidebook of 1863, from Ynysfaig [Fairbourne], but SALWEY's records are clearly most unreliable and it is extremely unlikely that the plant ever existed in this locality. Carex limosa (Mud Sedge). Card. In small quantity loosely rooted in very wet peat in one spot in Tregaron Bog on the 2nd June 1956 (Mrs. H. R. H. VAUGHAN). C. limosa is an uncommon sedge which has been seen in Cardiganshire on only a very few occasions. Bromus Thominii (a brome-grass). Merioneth. Morfa Harlech, Dyffryn golf links, Fairbourne, Barmouth sand dunes, etc. (P.M.B.); first records for Merioneth.
