collected in the Cwmdare area (N. Glam.) the following measure-
ments were obtained, though a true comparison between plants, as
with all characters, depends on transplant data from tillers of corres-
ponding growth stage.

Seed production, as was to be expected from panicle mor-
phology, was not very high, and at Pontpren, Penderyn, was 61-0
± 5·77 caryopses/panicle. Whilst seed size is difficult to measure
it was decided to determine the length of caryopses by means of a
low power micrometer eye-piece, and an average of 3.07 mms.
(range 2-5-3-8 mms.) was obtained.
