LIMNEPHILID CADDIS FLIES Mr. A. R. Tindall is endeavouring to improve his keys to the adults of the caddis flies of the genus Limnephilus. He has had to rely on dried specimens and illustrations, which is unsatisfactory, and he is anxious to obtain specimens in the fresh state or carefully preserved in, for example, Pampel's fluid. He would be most grateful for such specimens of any caddis flies thought to be limne- philids, with a note of the locality and date of capture they should be sent to him at the Department of Zoology, the University, Leicester. BOTANICAL SURVEYS IN WALES A number of Welsh botanical surveys are being organised by the recently formed Welsh Regional Committee of the Botanical Society of the British Isles. It is hoped that all Welsh botanists will help with the surveys which will provide valuable information for the next edition of Welsh Flowering Plants. The surveys have been designed to cater for all types of botanists and some of them should have a special appeal to biology teachers and sixth-form pupils. The surveys for 1963 include a Lake Flora Survey (to be done in collaboration with the National Museum of Wales); a survey of salt-marshes and sand-dunes along the Welsh coast an in- vestigation on the spread of Spartina townsendii in Wales mapping of selected species on a 1 km. basis, relating distribution and frequency to climate, soil, and other factors investigations on impoi tant botanical areas likely to be destroyed by industrialisation, urbanisation, etc. and an investigation of certain critical groups such as Polypodium vulgare agg., Callitriche spp., and Rosa spp. It is intended to continue certain surveys for several years. Further information can be obtained from the Secretary of the. Welsh Region of the Botanical Society of the British Isles Dr. J. P. Savidge, Department of Botany, University College of Wales, Penglais, Aberystwyth, Cardiganshire. W.W.N.T. LIBRARY The Trust's library of books, reprints and periodicals is main- tained at Orielton.
