NOTICE TO CONTRIBUTORS 1. CONTRIBUTIONS, Papers, articles, reviews relating to natural history in Wales will be considered for publication in Nature in Wales. Except fo: records, papers and notes are normally accepted on condition that the material is not being offered in whole or in part to another journal. 2 .TEXT. Manuscripts should be typed double-space on one side of the paper, leaving top and left-hand margins at least 1 inch (21/2 cms.) wide. Since underlining indicates to the printer the use of italic type, contributors should not underline words unless they are quite sure that they are to be printed in italics (e.g. scientific names, book titles, etc.). Dates should be in the form "1 January 1972' or '25 May'. not '1st January, 1972', or '25th May' or 'May 25th'. 3. NAMES. English names of species should have capital initials for each word. except after a hyphen (e.g. Haresfoot Clover, Lesser Black-backed Gull), but group terms should not (e.g. buttercups, finches). The scientific names of each species should be underlined and follow, in brackets, immediately after the first mention of the English names in the text. The use of scientific names is optional in case of mammals, birds. reptiles and amphibians. In listed records, and in the Field Notes in this journal, the scientific name should precede the English name, which should be in brackets. 4. REFERENCES. References should be listed at the end of the paper in alphabetical order and in the form: CLAPHAM. A.R.. TUTIN. T. G. & WARBURG. E. F. (1962). Flora of the British Isles. Cambridge. GOODIER. R. (1967). Welsh Mountain Spiders. Nature in Wales 10, 106- 114. 5. TABLES. Tables should be numbered with arabic numerals and the title type above. They must either fit into the width of a page or fit a whole page lengthways. They must be self-explanatory and should only be used if really necessary. 6. TEXT-FIGURES. Line drawings and figures should be in indian ink. on stout white paper or board, larger in scale than they are intended to be when published. The lettering, if any, should be in pencil unless done by someone experienced in lettering work. As for tables, they must be designed to fit the page. Captions should be typed on a separate sheet. Numbering as for tables. Photographs (glossy prints showing good contrast) and sketches will be considered. 7. PROOFS. Proofs will be submitted to authors. Alterations that would upset lines of type cannot be made. They should be carefully checked for typographical errors. Corrections should follow printers' conventions or be made lightly in pencil. 8. OFFPRINTS. Authors of papers and articles will receive twelve free offprints. Extra offprints can be supplied at cost if requested when galley proofs are returned. 9.
