NOTICE TO CONTRIBUTORS 1. CONTRIBUTIONS. Articles, notes and reviews relating to natural history and conservation in Wales will be considered for publication. Articles are normally accepted on condition that the material is not being offered to another journal. "Letters to the Editor" are also invited. 2. TEXT. Manuscripts should be typed on A4 paper, double-spaced on one side, leaving wide margins. Underlining indicates to the printer the use of italics, so authors should underline only words which are to be printed in italics. Dates should be typed as follows: 1 January or 25 May 1979. 3. NAMES. English names of species should have capital initials for each word, except after a hyphen (e.g. Haresfoot Clover, Lesser Black-backed Gull), but group terms should not (e.g. buttercups, finches). The scientific name of each species should be underlined. 4. REFERENCES should be listed at the end of the paper in alphabetical order and in the form: LOCKLEY, R.M. (1970) The Naturalist in Wales. David & Charles, Newton Abbot, 231 pp. CONOLLY, A. (1970) A visit to St. Tudwal's Island. Nature in Wales 16 (3), 173-179. 5. TABLES are expensive to set, and should be used only if absolutely necessary. They should be numbered in the form: Table 3. Flowering plants of Bardsey and referred to in the text. They must fit into the typeset area of a page (12 cms x 18 cms). 6. TEXT FIGURES. Diagrams, sketches and maps should be in indian ink, on stout white paper or board, ready for photographic reduction. If possible they should be in the proportions 2:3. All lettering should be in pencil unless done by someone experienced in lettering work. Captions should be in the following form: Figure 4. Wet weights of submerged species, and should be typed out on a separate sheet. In the text, figures should be referred to in either of the following forms: "the woodland area in Figure 1 is now part of the nature reserve. Three of the woodland species (Fig 2) can be found. Photographs (glossy prints with good contrast) will be considered for publication. 7. PROOFS will be submitted to authors. They should be carefully checked for typographical errors. Corrections should follow printer's conventions and should be made in red ink. Alterations that may upset lines of type cannot be made. 8. OFFPRINTS. Authors of articles will receive 20 free offprints. Extra offprints can be supplied at cost if requested when galley proofs are returned. 9. CONTRIBUTIONS and all correspondence should be addressed to Dr. Brian John, Editor, Nature in Wales, Trefelin, Newport, Dyfed SA42 OQN, S. Wales (Tel: Newport (Dyfed) 820470). 10.
