member of the R.I.S.W., but for many decades was an active member of Pennard Golf Club, being club captain in 1950.23 George was managing director of the firm in 1969 at the time of the takeover by Magnet-Southerns, and nine years later an unassuming announcement in the Western Mail inviting tenders for the 'Proposed Demolition of Gregor Brothers, South Dock, Swansea'24 did not escape his notice. This was to facilitate redevelopment of the area around Bathurst Street, and transformation of the South Dock into Swansea Marina, but it marked the conclusion of well over a century of timber trading at that site. The business was relocated to the Plasmarl Industrial Estate, where it now trades as Harcros Timber and Building Supplies. However, the company name lives on at Aberdare where, nearly 140 years after the two youngest sons of Cornishman William Gregor had formed a partnership, a firm of timber merchants still trades as Gregor Bros. 1.
