Welsh books entered in the Stationers' Registers 1554—1708. Part I. 1554-1660. The Registers of the Stationers' Company contain book entries covering the period 1554-1708. Those for 1554- 1640 were transcribed and edited by the late Prof. Ed. Arber in 5 vols. (1875 — 1894,) whilst those covering the remaining period were edited by G. E. B. Eyre, and published in 3 vols. (1913.) Prof. Arber also edited and published in 1913, the Term Catalogues, (3 vols.) which relate to the years 1668-1709. In connection with the exhibition at the National Library of Wales, of Welsh books published between 1546 and 1700, and in order to arrive at as complete a list as it is possible to make now, showing the output of Welsh printed books of this period, the eleven volumes of Tran- scripts referred to above have lately been read by a member of the Staff of the National Library, and all references to Welsh books copied. It was thought that Welsh biblio- graphers might welcome the publication in the JOURNAL of all the Welsh entries. It should, however, be remembered, as the editor of the 1913 Transcript points out, that at no time was the Register complete, for in its inception it was simply a record of the property of members of the Stationers' Company established by the Governing Body with the object of avoiding disputes as to ownership, and it does not include publications issued under Letters Patent and Royal Grants, but it is the most valuable and extensive record of publications in this country.'
