HISTORY OF THE PARISH OF LLANDYSILIO. By THOMAS PRYCE.. PART III. Continued from page 288, Vol. XXXI. RATE BOOK OF 1899, IN comparing the Rate Book of 1899 with the summary of the Tithe-Rent Apportionment of 1838, given at page 272, vol. xxxi., it will be interesting to note some of the changes which have taken place in the names of the owners and occupiers of property during the last sixty years. Of the twenty-three names of owners of more than 25 acres each which appear on the list in 1838, only nine are found as inheriting in the direct line in 1899; in two instances the property has passed through the female line to other representatives, and in twelve cases the property has been sold or bequeathed to others. Of the occupiers of more than 25 acres in 1838 not one is now living, and in seven instances only are they represented by sons or descendants as tenants or occupiers in 1899. The total number of owners (not including joint owners) at present on the list is seventy three, and the number of occupiers is about one hundred and fifty. The estimated gross rental of the parish was £ 7,326 3s. 6d. in 1899, and the rateable value Xq. 529 5s. For the year 1900 the gross valuation has been altered to £ 7,320 8s. 6d., with £ 6,534 15s. as rateable amount. Some differences in the given area of properties in the two lists are not easily accounted for; in some places the alteration in the banks of the river, caused by floods, would increase or diminish the area. In the assessment lists for the last few years the acreage is not given in all instances.
