SEAL FOR THE RURAL DEANERY OF POOL. THE accompanying sketch is from the pen of Mr. Robert Owen, Welshpool, and has been designed by him for the purposes of the cover of the Ruridecanal Magazine for the Deanery of Pool, in the diocese of St. Asaph. The present deanery was reformed just 20 years ago, and is made up of certain parishes out of the previous Deanery of Pool and Caereinion, with the parish of Berriew out of the Deanery of Cedewain. In the Norwich Tctxatio, 1253, the DECANATUS DE Powys contained the territories of Cedewain, Caer- einion, Deytheur, Llanerchydol, Mechain, and Ystrad Marchell, and was co-terminous with the quasi-diocese of the Periglor of the mother church of MEIFoD-an office then already annexed to the Bishopric of ST. Asaph.1 In this document we find grouped together certain churches, the chief of each group bearing the 1 Mont, Coll., vol, ii, pp. 301-2.
