ARMORIAL IRON FIRE BACK. BUILT into the outside wall of an old building, directly behind the Post Office at Welshpool, is an antique iron fire back, with the Powis Arms, of which an illustration is given taken from a photograph. As will be seen, the iron has been considerably burnt, and consequently the illustration is not very distinct. IRON FIRE BACK. The Post Office buildings, together with Mr. J. Pryce Jones's house, used to be the Castle Inn, perhaps the principal Inn in the Town. There is still remaining about the centre of the building a very elaborate lead troughing and down spout with the Powis Arms, with similar supporters to those on the fire back, and the date 1727.
