LHWYD'S PAROCHIALIA. "A SUMMARY of Answers to Parochial Queries, in order to a Geographical Dictionary, &c., of Wales, issued by Edward Lhwyd (Keeper of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford), in 1697;" Edited as Supplements to the Archwologia Cambrensis in 1909,1910, 1911, by Rupert H. Morris, F.S.A., and here reproduced by his kind permission as far as relates to Montgomeryshire and the Western Shropshire portion of Powysland,1 The Answers are bound together in one volume in the Bodleian Library, Oxford, Ashmol., 1280a, The numbers prefixed to the paragraphs refer to Lhwyd's 31 Queries, cf. Arch. Camb. Supply 1!09, i., pp. x—xiv. The Returns, which are not seldom difficult to decipher, and in some cases mutilated or illegible, and exhibit the usual variety in the spelling of names and other words, have been copied literatim. Lhwyd's notes and his Q. mel. = Quaere melius (make further inquiries) are given as they occur. [On p. 105 (footnote) the Editor, Canon Rupert H. Morris, says:—"The folios pp 78-81,98-100, 105- 8, were kindly copied by Mr. B. Evan Jones "].
