A HISTORY OF THE PARISH OF LLANFYLLIN FROM 1861 TO 1915. By J. MARSHALL DUGDALE OF Llwyx. THE History of Llanfyllin written by the late Rev. Robert Williams, M.A.. Rector of the Parish and Hon. Canon of St. Asa:ph, appeared in Vol III. of the Collections relating to Montgomeryshire, issued by the Powys-land Club and published in 1870. The Rector seems to have brought the history of the parish up to the year 1861, and it will be my object to give the history from 1861 to the present time, with interesting historical and archaeological facts anterior to 1861, which have since been obtained. The most interesting historical find of late years was made by the Rev. L. W. Davies and myself, when clearing old books and papers from the oak chest in the Church, for we found the old Vestry Book from 1718 up to 1816, It is a curious thing that this valuable book does not seem to have been heard of by the Rev. Canon Williams or he would have certainly mentioned it. It is proposed to publish a summary of this old book in the form of an appendix. The Vestry Book from 1816 to 1876 is missing, and up to the date of our going to press no trace of it has been found. Vol. XXIII, page 121 of the Mont. Collections gives the Charter of 25 Charles II. (1673), with lists of Bailiffs, Capital Burgesses, Recorders, Coroners, and Sergeants-at-Mace up to 1768, and extracts from Minutes of Quarter Sessions and the scheme for the New Charter 1882 and Charter 49 Victoria. In Vol. XXXII, page 295 of the Mont. Collections, Archdeacon Thomas describes the Llanfyllin Old Church of 1706. Lately there has been published by the same author a history of Llanfyllin Parish Church up to date.
