PREFACE. In presenting my first volume to you as editor, I want most emphatically to point out to you that the work of an editor is to collect articles and prepare them for the press, therefore the value of the volumes in a very large measure depends upon the articles contributed. Many people are afraid to send in articles, not having the gift of expressing themselves upon paper;, that is where an editor is wanted to shape an article and to convert it into a well-written paper. Many of those who have the most knowledge of Archaeological Subjects have not the time to become skilled writers. So I hope all who are interested will write down what they know and allow me to edit it for them. The very kind welcome I have received from the Club is most encouraging, but the area of Powys-land is full of interest; there is much yet to be explored and to be recorded to elucidate the history of the district. What we require is a full account of any discoveries made; any old deeds or documents bearing on the county history; genealogies of families connected with the county; descriptions of Church plate, Corporation plate, Church bells and anything of interest in old Churches or old houses; curious field names or place names; old customs, etc. This gives a wide field for research. I trust cur members will each endeavour to send a contribution or persuade a friend to do it for them. The following questions have been asked. Can our readers offer any answers? 1. How many visitations of Wales have been published and how many remain in MSS.? 2. Has any attempt been made to record epitaphs in Wales, especially in the county of Montgomery? 3. Are any old houses in Wales known to have hiding places? 4. What is the latest and best life of Henry VII?
