The Powys-land Club. The original Proposal for a Society or Club, to bear the above title, is printed in Vols. I. and II. of the Collections, Historical and Archaeological, relating to Montgomeryshire, issued in 1868-9 by the then newly- founded Club. This Proposal, dated March 1st, 1867, is signed MORRIS C. Jones, ) Hon. Sees. T. O. MORGAN, I pro. tern. The Club was constituted on October 1st that same year, under the presidency of the Earl of Powis. The lack of a Montgomeryshire County History lay at the root of the project, and an article in Archceologia Cambrensis, "On the Study and Preservation of National Antiquities," supplied a stimulus. Thereupon, a programme of work was sketched-out, and a series of suggestions compiled, for the guidance of would-be contributors of information. The subsequent conduct of the enterprise, through the past sixty years, has resulted in the collection and publication of a very considerable and valuable body of material to serve for a history of our County. Thanks to the self-sacrificing efforts of the pioneers and succes- sive helpers in the movement, the late Mr. Morris Chas. Jones in particular, the present-day members of the Club find themselves partners in an undertaking which has established a clear record of good service, and may be said truly to have built-up for itself an honourable tradition.
