Lists of the Perpetual Curates and Vicars of Churchstoke. J. B. WILLANS, F.S.A. Rev. R. J. Lansdale recently showed me a list of the perpetual curates and vicars of Churchstoke, compiled by the late Mr. Mountford of Churchstoke. The list begins with 1436. GRIFFINUS AP DAVID. 1475. JOHANNES AP HOWELL. 1479. RES DUPPA. This is a surname which one finds on the Welsh border in Shropshire, in such parishes as Wistanstow, and in Herefordshire and Radnorshire. 1539. JOHN AP MADOC. He was appointed on December 7th, 30 Hen. VIII., by the officers of suppressed lands. (mont. Coll., vol. II., p. 367). 1553. JOHN AP THOMAS. In M.C., XXVII., p. 395, he witnesses the will in 1557 of Richard ap Howell of Ednop, in Mainstone parish, and is called curate of Mainstone and again in the will of Katherine Howell v. Moryce, vid. 1559. GRIFFITH AP OWEN. He is menti6ned in wills of 1559, 1566, and 1571-2. In M.C., XXVII., p. 112, in the article on Gwemygoe chapel in Rowley Morris' History of Kerry, one of the Chantry Certificates relating to North Wales, drawn out and verified by the surveyor on the 28th of January, 1547-8, runs as follows:- A Stipendary cele- brating in the Chapel of Ease, called Chapell Gwernygoe. j xls. rysyng upon th'encrease of a flocke of cattell nowe p'ysed to be sold at xli. ijs. iiijd.
