PREFACE. This edition of Ministers' Accounts was undertaken at the request of the Flintshire Historical Society, and in preparing it I have kept in mind the fact that it may serve as a sort of text book for those members who may be only beginning to make Welsh local and social history a serious study. Consequently I have dwelt at greater length upon some points in the Introduction than I should have done had the book been intended merely for reference. It should be clearly understood that the Flintshire and Cheshire Ministers' Accounts are recorded on the same rolls. The Accounts for Cheshire have already been printed by the Lancashire and Cheshire Record Society. Unfortunately, only the first two Flintshire Accounts were included in that edition, and this present edition is intended to fill the gap so created. But that gap is not entirely filled, for there still remains an immense body of Flintshire Ministers' Accounts untouched. The first three of the Flintshire Accounts below were transcribed by Mr. W. K. Boyd. I have revised and added to his transcription, but am solely responsible for the rest of these Accounts. I must record my sincere thanks to Mr. Henry Taylor, Mr. Hilary Jenkinson, Officer in charge of the Literary Search Room at the Public Record Office, Sir Edward Anwyl, Dr. E. A. Lewis, Mr. G. J. Turner, and my old friends and tutors, Professor Tout and Professor Tait, for help and advice. ARTHUR JONES.
