Roger by descent and by marriage, was connected with the Pulestons of Emral, the Trevors of Brynkinallt, the Salesburys of Rhug and the Bulkeleys of Baron Hill." Sir Roger married first, Prudence, daughter and heiress of Sir Martin Lumley, Bart. She died in London in 1647. He then married Mary, daughter of Thomas, Viscount Bulkeley. Mary died in 1662 and was buried in Whitford Church. The third wife was Lumley, eldest daughter of George Coetmor. There were no children by this marriage. Lumley died on October 8, 1680, and was buried at Whitford on October 18. In Mostyn Hall is a picture showing him painted between two of his wives. It is said that the third was originally included but was painted out by some jealous hand. He was succeeded by his eldest son (named Thomas after Roger's father) who became second baronet and was in time succeeded by the third baronet who bore the name of Roger after his Cavalier ancestor. Sir Roger died at Mostyn Hall on October 4, 1690, and was buried in the family vault at Whitford-the last to be interred there. The order of the procession at his funeral is recorded in one of the Harleian Manuscripts in the British Museum, and is printed as an appendix below.89 His name is still associated with the vener- able church. There is a Porch Syr Roger," and one of the three bells bears his name and the date 1662. The oldest register of the church is inscribed This Register Booke is the Guift of Roger Mostyn of Mostyn Esquier, to his parish church of Whitford. Anno domini 1657.° Sir Roger attained prominence so early that he appears to have had an ex- ceptional life span it comes as a surprise to find that he was only 66 when he reached the journey's end.
