FLINTSHIRE HISTORICAL SOCIETY REPORT OF THE COUNCIL FOR THE YEAR 1971 MEMBERSHIP The membership of the Society is now about 554. The raising of the sub- scription was followed by the resignation of some old and valued members. 42 resigned. Many kept their banker's orders at ten shillings, and this increases the difficulty of saying how many members we have at present. This year the Society has lost by death Mr. Harold Gregory, as well as several other members. Mr. Gregory at the time of his death was Chairman of the Buckley Society. In recent years he had contributed to the Journal and he was deeply engaged in historical research, especially into the history of Flintshire industries. He will be greatly missed, and not only in Buokley. The loss of Sir Geoffrey Summers, Bart., one of our Vice-Presidents and a member of the Council, will be a great loss to the Society and to the public life of Flintshire. Mr. J. W. Niokson was an old member, greatly respected and liked. MEETINGS The Society continued to meet once a month, except in August. Meetings were on the whole well-attended, the excursions especially so. November 20th Mr. Colin Burgess-lecture on "The Bronze Age in Wales in the light of Recent Research". The Counoil regret the misprint in the Winter Programme that misled some people as to the date of this meeting. The mistake was corrected on the posters and in announcements at previous meetings. The gratitude of the Society is due to the lecturers who gave so freely of their time to help the Society's programme. Thanks are also due as in so many years to the Extra-Mural Department of the University College of North Wales, Bangor. The course arranged on the River Dee was excellent and each lecture held the attention of a numerous audience. Perhaps the last lecture, by one of our own members, Mr. Charles Quant, J.P., gave the most fascinating glimpses of what Flintshire might be like in the future. All the speakers deserve congratulations on their talks, and the members attending had plenty to think about afterwards. Some of the excursions were particularly well-attended and liked.
