APPENDIX II Mrs. Annabella Puleston The eldest daughter of Richard Williams of Penbedw who was the youngest brother of Sir Watkin Williams Wynn of Wynnstay. She lived from 1742 to 1824. Annabella Puleston was the widow of the Rev. Phillip Puleston, D.D. (Jesus CoU Oxon., matrio. 17 Dec 1748 aged 17 B.A. 1752, M.A. 1755, B.D. and D.D. 1784, see J. Foster, Alumni Oxoniensit 1715-1986, Vol. 3, 1888) of Pickhill Hall, Co. Denbigh. (O.S. Sheet 109 S.J. 401473.) A tablet in the chancel of Worthenbury Church reads The Rev Philip Puleston D.D. Fourth son of John Puleston Esquire of Pickhill, in the county of Denbigh, by Eleanor, his wife, died January 27th 1801 in the 70th year of his age. He was inducted into the Rectory of Worthenbury A.D. 1755, and into the Vicarage of Rhuabon A.D. 1784. He was twice married. First to Mary, 2nd daughter of John Egerton of Broxton, County Palatine of Chester. Afterwards to Annabella, eldest daughter of Richard Williams Esquire of Penbedw in the county of Denbigh. By the latter he left two daugh- ters Annabella wife of Edward Lloyd Lloyd Esq., of Pen-y-lan Co. Denbigh Elizabeth, wife of William Wynne Esq., of Peniarth, Co. Merioneth. Erected by his widow and daughters. He suffered an irremediable disease for 14 years, supported through it by his wife and daughters.' An extract from the Public Episcopal Register, Chester, on the West wall of the same church is signed, Philip Puleston, Rector August 1796.' The Longueville Deeds in the National Library of Wales are useful. Certainly from 1 May to 2 Aug. 1824 Mrs. Annabella Puleston appears to have been in considerable financial difficulty in which her daughter Mrs. E. Lloyd Lloyd was involved. (See Epitaph of Puleston above. Mr. Lloyd Lloyd, perhaps for reasons of inheritance, had been persuaded to change his name to her maternal surname, although the evidence is very confused at this point.) They borrowed a con- siderable sum of money during those years chiefly from their employees (a coachman, a gardener, and farmers), as may be seen from the promissory notes (Longueville 1294). In 1826 Mrs Annabella Williams, as she now was, daughter of Mrs. A. Puleston and wife or Mr. Edward Lloyd Williams as he now was, gave Power of Appointment to Col. T. Molyneux, the purpose of which seems to have been to promote marriage betterween Col. Molyneux and herself and his taking the name of Williams (Longueville 1299.) The value of Penbedw Estate in Nan- nereh and Cilcain in 1826 was £ 63,320-3-7 (Longueville 1305).
