RICHARD JONES, 1861. "On February 11th, 1861, Richard Jones, by Rev. J. W. Griffith, on resignation of Rev. J. W. Griffith" (Pryce, 3C, 75). He was educated at St. David's College, Lampeter, and ordained in 1843. He served as curate at Capel Curig, and Dolwyddelan with Bettws-y-coed. In 1864-65 he re-built the parish church at Trefeglwys at a cost of £ 1,012. He afterwards built a National School, and a house for the master, in Closewood. In 1873, he became vicar of Darowen, his native parish, where he died in 1890. (A.D.M. Dec., 1893). WILLIAM SYLVANUS WILLIAMS, 1873. "On June 20th, 1873, William Sylvanus Williams, by Rev. J. W. Griffith, on cession of R. Jones (Pryce, 3C, 81). He was born at Penllwyn, Cardiganshire, educated at St. Aidan's College, Birken- head, and ordained in 1868. He stayed only four years in Trefeglwys. He moved in 1877 to the Rectory of Trawsfynydd, where he died in the autumn of 1887. (A.D.M. Dec., 1893). MAURICE WHELDON JONES, 1877. The month, the name of the Patron, and the cause of vacancy are all omitted from the Bishop's Register (Pryce, 3C, 83). A native of Caernarvonshire, he was educated at Queen's College, Birmingham, and ordained in 1874. After serving as curate of Llangybi and then of Bettws- y-coed, he became Vicar of Trefeglwys. He was a man of considerable musical ability he trained the young people of the parish in choral singing, and often adjudicated at eisteddfodau. In 1880, with the co-operation of the parishioners and others, he built a mission church at Llawr-y-glyn, to seat 150 people, which cost close upon £ 1,200. He resigned the living of Trefeglwys in May, 1887. (A.D.M. Feb., 1894). EVAN EDWARDES, 1887. "On July 6th, 1887, Evan Edwardes, M.A., by Rev. J. W. Griffith, on resignation of M. W. Jones (Pryce, 3C, 87). Educated at St. Catharine's College, Cambridge, he was vicar of Trefeglwys from 1887 to 1902, when he left to become vicar of Caerdeon with Bontddu. In announcing his coming departure from Trefeglwys, he wrote in the parish magazine a brief note on his own incumbency: During these fifteen years the church has made slow but steady progress. There were only seven communicants on the first Sunday after Mr. Edwardes came now there are twenty-four. As regards temporal matters, the Vicar shortly after he came, rebuilt the churchyard wall, at a cost of close upon £ 150, renovated the Parish Church, built a new Vicarage, which, together with the planting and laying out of the grounds, cost him £ 1,450, towards which he received £ 7 from the parish. He cleared a debt of £ 220 on Llawr-y-glyn Church, and three years ago collected £ 400 towards the augmen- tation of the living." (A.D.M. May, 1902).
