accompanied the Magistrates and Captn Napier, Chief Constable of this County, by the very efficient & determined manner in which they performed their duty in the conflict which took place on the occasion of the destruction of the turnpike Gate at Pontardulais the particulars of which are doubtless within your recollection. This Service was one of very great danger and in our opinion the Capture of some of the rioters and their subsequent conviction, effectually checked the further progress of Rebeccaism in this part of the Country. William Rees (Inspector of the Police of the Borough of Swansea) in discharge of their very arduous duty during the whole of the period of the disturbed state of this district, the latter of whom cooperated with the County Constabulary under the direction of the Magistracy, and assisted Captn Napier in the apprehension of the parties residing at Cwmkille when so determined a resistance was made and Captn Napier wounded and we take the liberty of recommending these officers to your consideration in the hope that the Valuable services faithfully rendered by them under circumstances of so important a nature may be deemed sufficient to enable her Majesty's Government to grant to them such a measure of Reward as their good Conduct may entitle them to signed J.
