Gower United Association for the Prosecution of Felons, 1810-1892 by D. H. HEY IN THE EARLY NINETEENTH CENTURY it was customary in many rural areas to find associations or societies which were formed for the purpose of protecting individuals and private property. One such society was the Gower United Association for Prosecuting Felons, etc. which was inaugurated in the house of George Williams, Innholder, in the Parish of Llanrhidian on February 15th, 1810. The Treasurer was Mr. William Evans of Ystlesyrecon and the Secretary, Mr. James Manning of Killibion. The Com- mittee-men appointed for the year 1810 are given as follows JOHN LUCAS Jun'r, Esq., Stouthall. HENRY NUNN, Esq., Fairy Hill. Mr. JOHN CLARK, Hentlas (Henllys). Mr. THOS. HOLLAND, Llandewy (Llandewi). Mr. GEORGE HOLLAND, Cummaivy (Cwmivy). Mr. ROWLAND HANCORN, Llanellan (Llanelan). Mr. GEORGE HARRY, Llanrhidian. Mr. JOHN MORRIS, Pengwerne (Pengwern). Mr. RICHARD JONES, Llithrid (Llythrid). Mr. ROWLAND ROWLAND, Penralt (Penrallt). Mr. Carnelious GORDEN, Parkaredin (Parc-y-rhedyn). Mr. DAVID LONG, Pwllybrage (Pwll-y-ffroga). The original Rules and Articles made and agreed at the first meeting were as follows Article 1st. THAT this Association shall consist of One Hundred Members or as many More as the Committee shall see fit. Article 2nd. THAT twelve Members of this Association shall be Chosen Annually, If Required, as Committee-Men to Regulate the Affaires of this Society. Article 3rd. THAT a Treasurer and Secretary shall be Chosen by the Committee for the time being, for the Association, and If a Casting Vote is wanted in the Committee to Determine any Matter n Dispute with them the Treasurer shall have the Casting Vote. Article 4th. THAT It shall be in the Power of the Committee to Discharge the Treasurer or Secretary from their Office If they are found Negligent in their Duty. Article 5th. THAT the Treasurer or Secretary shall be allowed all Reasonable Travelling Expences at the Discretion of the Committee.
