Gower Photographic Competition, 1960 Adjudication by EVAN E. EVANS. I have been asked how I make my choice I am shown each entry separately by an officer of the Society and I pick out those in each Section which appeal to me most. I then weigh their pros and cons, bearing in mind the whole time the actual title of the Section upon which I am engaged. I do not know the name of the photographer until I have made my award. Pictures which do not conform to the title of the competition automatically eliminate themselves. Once more, I must ask entrants to observe the rules more carefully. This year's entry is a good one and shows greater interest as well as improved quality in the Junior Section and the Open Sections. The two Adult Sections are disappointing and I know that there is much better work being done in the Society. I regret having to with-hold the awards in both Adult Sections. The Char- acter Study Section has some good entries. There is only one section for juniors, but the entry is so good that I have decided to devide it-and to make awards under sea- scape and landscape headings. In this work the Society should be proud of its youngsters. There is a pleasing entry under the Colour Section and I had some difficulty in making my choice. There are several seascapes worthy of the award and some splendid character shots. I have shared the award between the best in these two groups. In future there should be a colour-slide section for juniors. It pleases me that a lady member has come so high in the com- petition and I hope that many more will thus be encouraged. The five sections attracted no fewer than 98 entries and the competition is clearly serving its purpose. Awards Adult Section (Coastal and Inland) Both awards with-held. Junior Section To G. R. ap Gwent and G. R. G. Roots (divided). Open Section To Peter Johns and Gwent Jones (divided). (Character Study). Open Section To Bernard Morris and Mrs. J. Price (divided). (Colour transparency).
