DAVIES HENRY Fox TALBOT WAS BORN in 1800, the year his father died, and consequently he was brought up with his cousins and spent most of his time at Margam and Penrice. Later on he spent considerable time at Penllergaer and corresponded regularly with John Dillwyn Llewellyn. As early as 1833, when travelling in Italy, he greatly desired to perpetuate the beautiful views he saw in the glass of his Camera Obscura. He experimented with this idea using a box type Camera Obscura in a tent in the grounds of Margam Abbey.
