into six editions and was translated into French. He was President of the Royal Institution 1856-57 and again in 1886-7-8. He was knighted in 1872 and became a Privy Councillor in 1887. In the year of his Presidency of the Royal Institution 1856-57, he worked with or assisted Henry Fox Talbot on a new project in photography which they called Photogalvanography a process which produced engravings on a plate by the action of light and electricity. Unexpectedly again in 1858, Henry Fox Talbot patented the process which he called the Photoglyptic Process by which light actually etched a picture on a plate from which prints could be and were taken.
