Much use is being made of the Library's typescript List of Manuscripts and Docu- ments relating to the Industry and Trade of Wales and applications have been received from as far afield as the United States of America for copies of the sections on Coal and Slate which have been cyclostyled. At the same time the Library's collection of industrial records continues to grow. The most recent addition is a second group of Cyfarthfa papers deposited by Mr. Geoffrey Crawshay, Llanfair Court, Abergavenny. Four years ago Mr. Crawshay deposited manuscripts and correspondence relating to the industrial and financial undertakings of William Crawshay, senior, William Crawshay, junior, Robert Crawshay, and R. T. Crawshay, 1813-1880. These papers have now been supplemented by correspondence and accounts of the Crawshay iron merchants' concern at George Yard, Upper Thames Street, London, more correspondence and accounts of the Hirwaun, Forest, and Cyfarthfa works, documents relating to iron mines in Dean Forest, Lydney iron and tinplate works, Lydbrook tin works, 1862-1863, and papers relating to the Oxfordshire estate of William Crawshay, 1860-1861. E. D. JONES. A HISTORY OF CHARTISM IN MONTGOMERYSHIRE. A recent gift to the National Library is a draft history of Chartism in Montgomery- shire by the late Mr. E. R. Horsfall Turner, of Llanidloes. Mr. Horsfall Turner had devoted much of his leisure to a study of Chartism in the Llanidloes district, and it is certain that if he had lived he would not have allowed the year 1939-the centenary year of Chartism-to pass without publishing the result of his researches. The manuscript as he left it is an important contribution to the history of the Chartist movement in Mont- gomeryshire, as the author had the advantage of using new material lent to him by the Earl of Powis. This material, consisting of about three hundred letters and papers arranged and bound at the National Library, was also lent by the Earl of Powis for the section on Chartism in the National Library's exhibition last summer. Being unable to see his manuscript through the press, Mr. Horsfall Turner expressed the wish that his executors should place it in the National Library. This wish has been fulfilled by his son, Mr. E. L. Horsfall Turner, Town Clerk of Scarborough and formerly Town Clerk of Aberystwyth. E. D. Tones.
