EDITORIAL NOTES The contents of the present number are exclusively devoted to a commemoration of the services rendered to the National Library by its principal founder and first President, the late Sir John Williams, Baronet, G.C.V.O., M.D., LL.D., D.Sc., who was born on November 6, 1840, and died May 24, 1926. The contributors include Lord Davies, Sir John Williams's present-day successor in the office of President of the Library; Sir Evan Davies Jones, Baronet, who has held various offices connected with the Library, including the Treasurership and the Vice-Presjdency-as Treasurer Sir Evan filled the post which was first held by another Pembrokeshire man, the late Dr. Henry Owen, whose association with Sir John Williams is described in this issue Mrs. Hughes Griffiths and her son, Mr. T. I. Ellis, the former a link between her husband, the late Mr. T. E. Ellis, M.P., and her brother, the late Principal John Humphreys Davies, both of whom were associated with Sir John Williams in the work of establishing the Library Sir Thomas Barlow, Baronet, and Dr. Herbert Spencer, colleagues and friends of Sir John in his professional career Dr. Mary Williams, Professor of French at the University College, Swansea, and a former student of the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, of which Sir John was President for many years and Dr. Annie Owen, also of the University College, Swansea, and a descendant of the family associated with Bailey, Gwynfe, at which house Sir John Williams was born. The remaining articles are by the Heads of the Departments of Manuscripts and Records, Printed Books, and Maps, Prints, and Drawings respectively, in all three of which Sir John Williams's gifts form the principal foundation collections.
