The manuscript volumes consist of an entry book of legal precedents, including marriage settlements and other documents of the family of Griffith of Cefnamwlch, 1710- 18, the will of Sir William Williams, Vaynol, 1695, the opinion of John Comyns on the claim of Sir Arthur Owen, vice-admiral of North Wales, to wreckage between the Dovey and Barmouth, 1722/3, an undated declaration in an action for the possession of a seat in Machynlleth church, and the deed of appointment of Richard Edwards to be deputy mayor of Caernarvon, 1668 a volume of rentals of the estate of Captain Timothy Edwards, 1776 and 1811-18 and an entry book of letters received by Colonel Richard Edwards, and copies of other letters, 1820-30. A number of these letters relate to politics in Caernarvonshire, especially during the years 1825-6, and the writers include Warren Viscount Bulkeley, Edward Carreg (Carreg), Ann Browning Edwards and John Browning Edwards (Coed Helen), the Reverend Howell Holland Edwards (Pennant), Henry Foulkes (Principal of Jesus College, Oxford), Robert Hughes (Plas Llangoed), Colonel Evan Jones (Gelliwig), George Kenyon (Cefn), John Lloyd (Trallwyn), Henry William Majendie (bishop of Bangor), H. W. Paget, Marquis of Anglesey, Colonel Love Parry (Madryn), Captain J. T. Sewell (Caernarvon), T. Assheton Smith (Vaynol), H. J. Temple, Viscount Palmerston, Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington, H. Rumsey Williams (Penrhos), the Reverend Peter Williams (Llanbedrog), Sir Robert Williams (Friars), Peter Robert, 21st baron Willoughby de Eresby, and T. J. Wynn, 2nd baron Newborough. This volume also contains a valuation of gold coins found at Gelliwig, 1821. The deeds, which form the greater part of the collection, belong to the period 1476- 1868 and are principally conveyances of properties in cos. Caernarvon, Anglesey, and Denbigh, and to a lesser extent in cos. Merioneth, Montgomery, Flint, Salop, Hertford, Bedford, Middlesex, Limerick, and Kerry. Among them are an estreat from the court roll of the commote of Vghalet, co. Denbigh, 1476; a demise of land in co. Anglesey by David, abbot of Conway, 1511 a deed of appointment by Geoffrey, abbot of Conway, of a collector of rents in the commote of Talbollion, co. Anglesey, 1527 three deeds of Robert Devereux, Earl of Leicester, 1569/70-7 and a lease of land in Nevin, co. Caer- narvon, to build an Independent chapel, 1827. Miscellaneous documents include a rental of Crown properties in the town and liberties of Conway, 1626; two assessments of the town and liberties of Caernarvon for land tax, 1717 and 1727 a licence to practise medicine granted by the University of Oxford to Francis Lloyd, Rhosbeirio, bachelor of medicine, of Jesus College, 1737 a large group of papers, 1820-30, relating to the administration by Colonel Richard Edwards of the estate of Colonel Evan Jones (Gelliwig), including accounts of creditors, receipts for the payment of debts, and holograph letters of Anne Maria Jones (Gelliwig), 0. A. Poole (Bala), George Kenyon (Cefn), John Ellis (Pwllheli), and others seventeen holograph letters mainly to Thomas Ellis, Pwllheli, in connection with the proposed presentation of a piece of plate to Richard Lloyd Edwards on the completion of the Nant Bodlas road, together with a list of subscriptions, a postage account, and a balance sheet of the testimonial fund, 1839-40; six holograph letters from Lord Fitzroy Somerset, Horse Guards, to Richard Lloyd Edwards, junior, relating to the latter's studies for a military career, 1851-2 a group of three papers, 1609-86, relating to Jesus College, Oxford, including particulars of the endowments of Henry Rowlands, bishop of Bangor, 1609 an undated plan of the Ty- coch estate in cos. Caernarvon and Anglesey; and a few issues of The London Gazette and The Naval and Military Gazette, 1854, containing accounts of operations in the Crimea, where Richard Lloyd Edwards, junior, was killed.
